As Manager/Corporate Communications at Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation, I helped restructure the internal communications systems for that global media company’s 26,000 employees. I also wrote press releases and coordinated a system of corporate giving. I was later recruited away to work for Dow Jones and ITT as Director/Cable Affiliate Relations for its broadcast station, WBIS. That involved a new challenge: working with over 100 cable systems, while developing cross-platform marketing and promotion campaigns among the station’s cable operators.
As an actor, I have performed in theatre, film, TV, radio and video. Most rewarding was touring for “The Kids on the Block,” a nationally franchised troupe of disabled puppets; that led to studying puppetry with Kathy Mullen, of “Fraggle Rock” and “The Muppet Show.” Next came teaching acting, as well as directing productions at Long Island University and the State University of New York. It was as a co-founder of an entertainment production company that I learned first-hand how to create and deliver an attention-getting pitch. As the spokesperson and co-author for the company’s groundbreaking humor book, MenOpop, I recognized how listening and being authentic can influence an audience.
In my spare time, I fly fish and read (although not at the same time). I volunteer for the Actors Work Program, ComedyCures Foundation and Project Healing Waters. I’ve also contributed to the 9 to 5 Association of Working Women as a writer and editor.
